Tulsa's Admiral Twin opened for business again Friday night after nearly two years.

The original Tulsa icon -- which even appeared in the movie "The Outsiders,"  burned to the ground in 2010.

Friday night's gates opened at 7 p.m., and shortly after 9 p.m., the owners of the drive-in were starting to turn people away.

Co-owner Blake Smith said he's not exactly sure of Admiral Twin's capacity, but he thinks it can hold about 1,000 cars on each side.

"This is part of Tulsa's scene, it's part of its history," Lynn Cook said.

Anxious movie-goers waited hours in the heat for the chance to be a part of the Admiral Twin Drive-In's new night in history. Some people were lined up as early as 6 a.m.

"I think it's crazy how there's so many news people out here, just for a drive-in. It's pretty cool," said Alex Elifortis.

But for many, the wait was worth it to be a part of the re-birth of the historic Tulsa landmark.

The line of cars outside the gate stretched farther than the eye could see. Some of the cars even matched the era of the original Admiral Twin.

"Well, I'm not gonna drive my new car to a drive-in -- I'm gonna drive my old car to the drive-in," Cook said.

Tulsa's beloved drive-in movie theater is back, and the icon is shining brighter than ever before.

For one young movie-goer, up well past his bedtime, the Admiral Twin is like nothing he's ever seen.

Gavin, 7, said: "It's the best movie theater I've ever seen."
