I walked into the Chesapeake Arena today at lunchtime to watch the team's practice a bit and conduct interviews.
And as I'm standing there on the court, surrounded by journalists and TV crews from around the world, it really hit me for the first time. Oklahoma City has arrived on the international sports scene, and way ahead of schedule, if anyone really had it scheduled at all.
It was made obvious a few minutes later when a reporter from FOX radio recognized me and wanted to interview me, just a few feet from these basketball stars, about how Oklahoma City has changed.
And if that wasn't enough, tonight a radio station in LA wanted an interview, not so much about the Thunder, but about Oklahoma City's coming of age.
I told them OKC, as they all call us, was a team and a city that refused to believe they were too young, or too small, or weren't quite ready yet for the big time.
"Just give us a chance" the Thunder, and it's city kept saying.
Well we've got it, now let's make the most of it.
Thunder Up, Big Blue!!!
