Rescue crews have recovered the body of a man who drowned in the North Canadian River, near 5100 Midwest Blvd. in Oklahoma City Saturday night.

Police say the 40-year-old man was attempting to cross the river when he went under and never resurfaced. Oklahoma City firefighters recovered his body about 8 p.m., 10 feet away from the shore in about 10 feet of water.

The victim has not been identified at this time and rescue workers aren't sure what lead the gentleman to attempt to cross the river bank.

Crews and divers surveyed the area up to a half mile from the point of the incident when they discovered the body.
