Oklahoma's Brittany Borman won her second straight National Championship in the javelin Wednesday afternoon at the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Her mark of 184 feet, seven inches was more than four feet better than the second place finisher.
With the win, Borman becomes the first OU student-athlete to win back-to-back outdoor national titles in any event.
"It felt good," Borman said of her winning throw. "I didn't know if it would hold, honestly, there's a lot of really good girls out there, good competition. I've been surrounded by a great team, great coaches, so I felt like they really prepared me for it. It's just great to be a part of such a good team."
Borman is the sixth female to win back-to-back national titles in the javelin, joining Oregon's Rachel Yurkovich (2008, 2009), Air Force's Dana Pounds (2005, 2006), SMU's Windy Dean (1996, 1997, 1998), Rice's Valerie Tulloch (1994, 1995) and Alabama's Iris Gronfeldt (1984, 1985).
After her win in the event last season, she is the first Sooner to win a national championship in the javelin and the third Big 12 Conference student-athlete to win an NCAA title in the event.
Borman finished 13th in the discus throw (172-2), which immediately followed the javelin competition.
