The Oklahoma Sooners pulled off an improbable double-header sweep of the Appalachian State Mountaineers Monday, 14-6 and 5-2, to win the Charlottesville Regional of the NCAA Tournament and advance to a Super Regional matchup against South Carolina.

Cody Reine was the star of the opening game for the Sooners, going 2-of-4 from the plate, with a home run and a triple, driving in six of OU's 14 runs in the process. Matt Oberste was nearly perfect from the dish, finishing the game with a hit in all four of his at-bats, including a pair of doubles and four runs batted in.

Steven Bruce received a win for the outing, giving up 3.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on two hits, while Rob Marcello was credited with a loss, allowing four earned runs in five innings.

In the second game of the double-header, Oklahoma starter Drew Harrison was a big part of the Sooners' success, keeping the Mountaineers' bats at bay. The junior gave up three hits and two earned runs – an RBI double in the first and a sacrifice fly in the sixth – to set the tone for OU.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Oklahoma immediately responded, tying the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a one-out single from Matt Oberste to score Caleb Bushyhead. Two at-bats later, Jack Mayfield doubled to left field, scoring Evan Mistich and Oberste to take a 3-1 lead.

Mayfield drove in his second run of the game in the bottom of the third via a sacrifice fly, bringing Mistich home from third to take a 4-1 lead. Appalachian State cut into the lead once again in the sixth, but Tanner Toal sent an RBI single back up the middle to score Eric Ross and push the lead back to three runs.

Jeffrey Springs picked up a loss for the Mountaineers, giving up all five Oklahoma runs on 10 hits in 54.1 innings of service.

Oklahoma will now take on annual power South Carolina in a Super Regional matchup. The first game is scheduled for Saturday, June 9, at 7 p.m. at Carolina Field in Columbia, South Carolina.
