Arrests have been made in a bizarre crime ring that has been targeting Home Depot stores across the country, including stores here in the metro.

Edmond police tell us one of the thieves was a man dressed as a woman, stealing expensive power tools.

Edmond Police said a group of cross dressing thieves were captured in Louisiana over the weekend, who match the description of the thieves who hit the Edmond Home Depot in late April.

Edmond police say it was back in late April that two men walked into the Edmond Home Depot on Broadway Ave, and walked out with more than $3,177 in power tools. But one of the thieves was dressed in an unusual way.

"It's clearly a man that is dressed as a woman," said Jenny Monroe, Spokesperson for Edmond Police department. "And then there's another man with him and they are filling their baskets up with high end power tools."

Employees tell us the thieves went out the contractor pickup door, unloaded the stolen tools into a waiting car and took off.

Police said it appears these thieves also hit other home depot stores across the nation and could be linked to a larger crime ring.

"There's similar incidents in Texas, Louisiana and obviously here in Oklahoma and possibly some other home depots in the metro as well," said Monroe.

News 9 did try to contact the Home Depot Corporate office for a comment.

In a statement, they say that this was a good example of how they work closely with local, state, and federal authorities to pursue these types of crime rings, since organized retail crime often feeds other crimes.
