Parents at one Tulsa Public School elementary school have raised enough money to pay a 3rd grade teacher's salary.

Brian Banfield is a science teacher at Eliot Elementary.  Eliot's PTA launched a fundraising campaign to pay his salary themselves.  School officials announced Friday that the parents surpassed their goal of $42,000.

TPS superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard praised the parents when they began the effort earlier this month.

"I don't think they should have to, but if the legislature is not going to step up and do their job, then parents are willing to do it. I never thought I would see something like this is my career," said Dr. Keith Ballard.
