Joplin marks the one year anniversary of a tornado that destroyed people's lives and homes.
It also cut down what some would consider the heart of the community, the parks, which are also on their way to a full recovery.
Cunningham Park was destroyed on May 22 and it wasn't the only one. Restoring those parks is something Joplin Parks and Recreation Director Chris Cotten has been working on.
"The city of Joplin is being heavily viewed by not only the surrounding areas, but the United States and even the world," said Cotten. "So, we want to make sure we put things back better than they were before the storms and we can't do that without the help we've received from everybody."
Hundreds of trees have already been replanted, thanks to countless volunteers.
