A clerk at a Check-N-Go store on N.W. 23rd Street near N. Villa Avenue came face-to-face with a masked man holding a gun, and police hope video from the store will help them catch the crook.

The man walked into the store just after 2 p.m. on May 9. He was wearing a ski mask and holding a black, semi-automatic pistol in his left hand.

The clerk said he walked directly behind the counter and told her to open the cash drawer. She complied then stepped aside. The robber grabbed the cash from the drawer. He told the clerk he wasn't going to hurt her, and he ordered her to lie on the ground and count to 100. He then left the store.

While the clerk was counting, she hit the silent alarm button. As soon as the suspect left, she stood up.

Two people sitting in their cars outside the store saw the suspect leave. One witness told police he saw the robber walking westbound behind the Check-N-Go, carrying a ski mask.

Police arrived just a few minutes after the robbery. Officers searched the area while the police helicopter searched from above, but they could not locate the robber. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a white shirt and dark pants.

Police have released surveillance video of the robbery. If you recognize the suspect, call Crime Stoppers at (405) 235-7300.
