Mother's Day: A Whole New Perspective

I got the chance to enjoy my first Mother's Day this past week and it was better than I even imagined.

The day started great. Gage (and Nick) got me a beautiful pot with flowers in it that I can put just outside his bedroom window so that we can enjoy the view when I'm reading him books. We then went to church and as I quickly learned, Mother's Day is not a good day to go out to lunch!

After waiting 45 minutes at the restaurant we ended up leaving for a quick burger. Next year I think I'll do the cooking!

But I also had the chance to reflect (even more) on how much I absolutely love being a mom. For as much work as it is, as much as I've dreamed about a full night's sleep, as many diapers as I've changed, it's all so worth it.

My heart just melts when I look at Gage. He's my little miracle and nothing can quite compare to getting that toothless grin! But another thing I wasn't counting on this Mother's Day was how much more I would appreciate my own mother. She's always been there and while I always knew she loved me and would do anything for me, it's not until now that I realize how she must have felt when she was caring for me growing up.

I never really thought about all the sacrifices she's made. Sure I knew she had to give up doing things for herself, but what I now realize is that she did so joyfully, and that as a mother, you wouldn't have it any other way. That you'd do anything for your child, and that you want to do everything for your child. It makes me love my mom even more and respect all mothers on a whole new level.
