My 2 Cents: Governor Fallin Signs Open Carry Bill

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

Governor Fallin today signed the Oklahoma Self Defense Act which allows people with a permit to openly carry a firearm or conceal it.

I haven't heard a convincing reason yet for this law... and yes, I read the second amendment Right to Bear Arms again today.

Did you see our story last night on Open Carry in Oregon?

The reaction of people as they walked by men who were openly carrying.

A lot of them were unnerved by it, and frankly these guys were dressed in a way that they could have passed as plain clothes detectives, and still it was unsettling.

What if you put someone on a street corner in scroungy clothes, unkempt hair or a backward ballcap, and a glock on his hip?

Are you going to cross to the other side of the street rather than get near them?

You might.. I might.

What is the benefit of Open Carry?

Some say it would make potentially violent lawbreakers think twice if they saw someone openly carrying a firearm, it's a valid point but it doesn't outweigh the potential confusion and danger it can cause officers responding to such calls when several people are armed.

I still contend concealed carry is just as effective and less threatening.
