OKLAHOMA CITY -
Oklahoma veterans could soon be honored on their driver's licenses. Monday, the state Senate approved legislation that would allow veterans to have a special emblem on their Oklahoma driver's licenses.
Senate Bill 138 would authorize the Department of Public Safety to create driver's licenses with the word ‘Veteran' appearing on a flag in one corner.
"This bill is a way to honor our veterans young and old, but it will be especially helpful for our elderly veterans," said Sen. Roger Ballenger, D-Okmulgee. "Older veterans in many instances need to be able to verify their status as a veteran, to participate in a Veteran's Day event or enter a park or to qualify for a special discount. A flag on their driver's license is an easy way for veterans to identify themselves."
SB 138 now advances to the Governor's desk.
