Man Accused Of Raping Child At OKC Convenience Store

An accused child rapist is free on bond, but police say he could soon face more charges.

Syed Haider, a former Oklahoma City convenience store owner, is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in the restroom of his own business.

Haider has already been charged with indecent or lewd acts with a child under 16 in the case. A search warrant filed Tuesday shows police are continuing to find more evidence against Haider.

Police say the child rape took place at the Western Quick Mart at 5115 S. Western Avenue in Oklahoma City. According to court documents, a deaf girl was shopping for her mother at the store when a man behind the counter gave her a note asking for sex. Police say Haider was the man behind the counter.

Haider is accused of telling the child to go into the restroom, where he allegedly made motions with his hands and mouth to let the girl know exactly what he wanted. Later, police say the girl was raped.

News 9 paid the Western Quick Mart a visit to confront Haider, but he was not there. A store employee says Haider sold the business last Friday. The new owner was happy to let News 9 know he's trying to make things better.

"The guy who [owned the store] … I just recently got it from him, and he's gone now," said new store owner Ali Ansar. "I don't know what he's doing. I have nothing to do with it."

It's almost impossible to track Haider down. His address on an Oklahoma City police report turned out to be bogus, and his listing in the white pages took News 9 to the center of the Interstate 44 and Lake Hefner Parkway interchange.

Tuesday's search warrant was filed to gather evidence from the convenience store and examine the restroom where police say the girl was raped. According to the search warrant, investigators believe their evidence will allow them to file a first degree rape complaint against Haider.
