The 74-year-old driver of a pickup truck is dead after he hit a semi head-on Sunday night on Highway 169 in Rogers County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

It happened just before 6 p.m., 2 miles north of Talala.

Troopers said the pickup truck driven by Jimmy Roberts of Skiatook was northbound when, for an unknown reason, it went left of center and struck a southbound semi head-on.

Both vehicles caught fire and authorities had to shut down a 2-mile section of the highway.

The driver of the semi, 35-year-old Keegan Harrison of Kansas City, Kansas and his passenger, 41-year-old Jeffrey Hand also of Kansas City, Kansas, were taken to a Tulsa hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Highway was closed for more than eight hours while the OHP investigated the crash.  Traffic had to be diverted onto county roads while the highway was closed.
