Thursday marks 13 years since the worst tornado outbreak in Oklahoma history.

May 3, 1999 is a day that changed lives and brings back memories for many people across the city and state.

One survivor says she'll never forget how quickly life can change.

"It was terrifying," said Susan Paulson, who was just 11-years-old on May 3, 1999.

"My grandpa went inside and Gary England said ‘get underground!' get underground," she said. "We went next door to see if we could seek shelter and they turned us away."

Next door, her parents home was destroyed.

"Once we got to the house the sirens hit," she said. "I looked at my grandma and told her we need to pray. When we got out everybody was running everywhere you could see people injured hurt."

On the anniversary of the tornado, she can't help but look at the pictures and clips even though it gives her nightmares.

"Tornado season, it's all I think about," she said. "Could this happen again? Because it could."

Susan is a mom now and remembering what that tornado was like reminds her to always have a plan for the kids when severe weather hits.
