A woman walking down a northwest Oklahoma City street in April says a stranger suddenly punched her in the face then repeatedly kicked her.
The woman was walking near N.W. 23rd Street and Robinson on April 17 just before 11:30 p.m. She said as she walked by, a man sitting on a bus stop bench suddenly stood up and blocked the sidewalk. The woman said as soon as she said, "Excuse me?" the man punched her in the face with his fist.
According to several witnesses, the woman fell into the street and the man began to walk away. The witnesses said the man quickly turned around, walked back and began kicking the victim and hitting her with a concrete chunk.
A man driving by stopped his car to help and the suspect finally walked away. Witnesses called 911 and the woman was rushed to the hospital. The victim and witnesses told police the attacker was a heavyset black male wearing a red shirt and carrying a jug of juice.
Officers used the Oklahoma City police helicopter to locate the suspect. He was hiding in the backyard of a home on N.W. 25th Street. Police arrested the man and identified him as 44-year-old Alfred Lavelle Means of Midwest City.
Means was arrested on complaints of assault with a dangerous weapon, and aggravated assault and battery. He has a long criminal history with convictions for assault and battery on a police officer, drug possession, and placing bodily fluids on a government official.
According to the police report, earlier the same day a female jogger said she was punched for no reason by a stranger matching Means' description. Police contacted the woman after Means' arrest, but she did not want to file a report.
The woman attacked in the street is recovering.
