OU's White, OSU's Whaley Receive Weekly Big 12 Awards

Two college baseball standouts in the state of Oklahoma received weekly honors from the Big 12 Conference Monday.

OU's Max White has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week while Oklahoma State's Trey Whaley has been tagged as the Newcomer of the Week by the conference.

White's honor is the second of the season for the junior who hit .444 in four games last week with nine RBI. The Durant native belted a three-run homer to clinch the weekend series over Kansas last weekend.

In the last seven games, White is hitting 16-for-30 (.533) with two homers, three doubles, eight runs, 13 RBI, and an .833 slugging percentage. On the season, White ranks third in the Big 12 with 43 RBI (ties career high) and fourth in both hits (60) and batting average (.361). He also ranks second in the league in multi-hit games (20) and multi-RBI games (14).

Whaley was also a major contributor for the Cowboys last week. The junior's hot hitting helped OSU go 4-0 last week including a win over the No.23 Sooners and a sweep at Kansas State. The Lubbock native hit .529 with six doubles, five runs and four RBI.

In the K-State series, he was 7-for-13 (.538) with three RBI, four doubles, four runs and 11 total bases. His slugging percentage in the series was .846. With his offensive tear, Whaley raised his season batting average to a team-leading .328. This week's award is the second such of the season for the Cowboys.

Missouri's Rob Zastryzny was named this week's Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.

Oklahoma hosts Mid America on Monday at 5 p.m. before the anticipated Bedlam Series against Oklahoma State begins May 4 in Tulsa at 7 p.m.
