A woman who was shot by Tulsa police last week has filed a civil lawsuit against the city and two officers, claiming she was targeted because she is Hispanic.

The lawsuit was filed Thursday on behalf of Maria de Lourdes Vazquez Hernandez. She was shot multiple times by police outside Las Americas Super Mercado early April 20.

A Tulsa police spokesman has said witnesses told officers Vazquez Hernandez was acting strangely in the parking lot and had a gun tucked into her waistband. But the lawsuit claims Vazquez Hernandez had no weapon. She was shot in the arm and twice in abdomen.

Homicide detective Sgt. Dave Walker told the Tulsa World that the shooting remains under investigation.

Vazquez Hernandez is seeking damages in excess of $75,000.
