Crews To Begin Widening Project On Kilpatrick Turnpike

The widening project on Kilpatrick Turnpike is set to begin at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1. The project will add a lane in both westbound and eastbound directions of the Kilpatrick Turnpike.

The widening project on Kilpatrick Turnpike is set to begin at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1. The project will add a lane in both westbound and eastbound directions of the Kilpatrick Turnpike.

According to officials with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, crews will begin closing certain parts of the turnpike Friday night. They will start replacing current concrete panels in the drive lanes to prepare for the project. Officials say this should not affect day-time traffic as work will be performed overnight.

Although crews will try to maintain all four lanes of traffic during day light hours, according to officials, periodic lane closures will occur and motorists will need to be alert to daily changes. Speed will be reduced to 55 MPH.

Officials released a timeline of important dates for the project:

Friday, April 27, 2012 – Monday, April 30, 2012: OVERNIGHT: Panel replacement: Eastbound insides lane at MacArthur.

Tuesday, May 1, 2012 8 p.m.: Crews will be setting concrete barriers beginning wb at MacArthur. Traffic will be shifted to accommodate barriers.

July: Lake Hefner fly-over bridge closed for pillar replacement: This is the bridge from wb Kilpatrick to sb Lake Hefner Parkway.

City officials say the project is expected to be completed by May 12, 2013.
