Clarkson is finally free!

Posted: Updated:

Just a few minutes ago, the University of Tulsa announced that the school and star guard Jordan Clarkson have come to an agreement on his desire to transfer. Up until now, TU was only reportedly going to let Clarkson leave TU for three other destinations that were on his 8-team wish list – Vanderbilt, Colorado or TCU.

Now, the school says Clarkson has "a full release to all but a limited number of schools."

TU won't comment on this any further but it can be assumed that means Clarkson can go anywhere outside of Conference USA (Just my thought - Texas wasn't available at first. I bet it is now and I bet that's where he winds up).

If that is the case, tip of the cap to you, TU. That's the right thing to do. Clarkson was the best player on the team last year but was clearly not feeling it here in Tulsa anymore. He wants to go somewhere else, presumably closer to home. Maybe he doesn't want to be closer to home. Maybe he just wants to get out of here and try something else.

I have no problem with this at all. We are all entitled to do what makes us the most comfortable and clearly he feels like he would be more comfortable playing somewhere else. You can't accuse him of not giving his all while he was here. He scored 16.5 points per game and was first-team all-conference last season as a sophomore.

Clarkson's dad has told multiple media outlets that this has nothing to do with Danny Manning being the new coach. Clarkson was tight with Doug Wojcik, but was also thinking about leaving while Doug was still the head coach here.

Don't get on this guy's case and belittle him for leaving. I had a few TU fans comment to me that a true leader is a guy that doesn't run from change and sticks it out until the end.

Bologna. Jordan can do whatever he wants to do. If you think you'd have more success at a different office with different bosses, you're within your right to move on to something you think might be a better fit. Why should it be any different for a college athlete?

Good luck, Jordan. Hopefully you find success wherever you land next.
