The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) began Thursday taking down the old I-40 Crosstown bridge, which could cause some headaches for drivers.

The deconstruction will affect several downtown streets. ODOT has closed Western Avenue between Reno and California. It's scheduled to reopen in mid-May. ODOT is urging drivers to use Classen to get around the construction.

It will take about eight months to take down the old Crosstown bridge to make way for a new boulevard and reconnections to the new interstate. ODOT says drivers should expect congestion and plan ahead for extra travel time, especially during rush hours.
