Streets are reopening in Norman after a twister caused damage to the center of the city. Just east of downtown is where some of the most significant damage could be found. The sight had people coming out to see the damage one day later.

Images of Porter Street from Friday looked much different from Saturday. On Friday, Porter Street was blocked off from mounds of twisted wood. Progress is happening with the street back open to traffic, but there is still more work to be done.

"It scares me," Norman resident Bill Blevins said. "It came on so quick."

A building just south of Norman Regional Hospital was the only one on the street to suffer significant structural damage. The tornado's fury was hit and miss.

"The houses around us got hit, and our [house] suffered very minor damage," Norman resident Terry Standifer said. "We got lucky."

For the most part, the tornado was not strong enough to rip apart exterior walls. Although, bricks at the top of at least one building were scattered throughout one neighborhood. The storm system did not allow for much warning. Most people in central Norman took cover just in time.

"I'm stunned," Blevins said. "I was stunned this morning and last night after we found out how much damage there was. It could have easily been us."

OG&E was patrolling the area late Saturday. At the time, there were 1,280 customers without power.
