OKLAHOMA CITY -

We are waking up Saturday morning after a round of severe weather overnight to sultry and almost tropical conditions.

When it comes to severe weather, this is one of the keys. A powerful storm system is churning though the Rockies right now and it is on its way to the central plains. Just about everything is setting up for a severe weather, and more importantly, tornado outbreak across the plains.

By Sunday morning, there will be a wide swath of severe weather reports from Nebraska to as far south as north Texas. Most of Oklahoma is under an enhance risk for severe weather, with the central and northern areas being most at risk.

We have seen these conditions before. Just go back to last year on May 24, 2011, or in 2010 on May 10. And there are even similarities to the biggest severe event ever for Oklahoma from May 3, 1999.

The difference with this event is the data is showing it to be a later event than those. That is probably our biggest question mark on how Saturday will play out.

We do know once storms fire, a legitimate threat for severe weather will follow. Rarely is the forecast ever exactly clear cut, so we will watch the latest conditions as they develop Saturday afternoon.
