The American Red Cross shelter in Norman continues to operate at Whittier Recreation Center at 2000 W. Brooks.

As of 11 p.m., an estimated 100 people were using the shelter and most of them indicate that they will be staying overnight.

The Red Cross is providing food, beverages, cots and other necessity items to help those affected by the tornado.

The University of Oklahoma's "The Big Event" on Saturday is canceled.  Organizers of the event have donated more than 4,000 boxed lunches to the Red Cross to use tonight and tomorrow. It was rescheduled for April 21.

The Red Cross is also in contact with authorities in the Shawnee area and in Jackson County.  In Jackson County, there are reports of home damage. The Red Cross has remained in contact with emergency management there to determine if there are any shelter or feeding needs overnight.

The Red Cross will try to do damage assessments on Saturday, once all the storms are clear and when it is safe.
