Quarter Of A Million Dollar Bond Set For Man Accused In ODOT Worker's Death

A Sperry man remains in the Washington County jail on a $250,000 bond charged with first-degree manslaughter in the traffic death of an Oklahoma Department of Transportation employee in a construction zone.

Deven Franklin, 19, appeared before Washington County Special Judge Kyra Williams via video monitor from the county jail Monday.  According to court records, he appeared without an attorney so Williams appointed one to represent him.

Franklin is accused of hitting Ira Henderson, 42, as he stood on the center line of the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 75 near Ramona on November 30, 2011.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers allege they found a wooden box containing marijuana and paraphernalia in Franklin's car and a blood test determined that enough drugs were present in his system to impair his ability to drive.

Ira Henderson was the 54th ODOT road worker killed on the job in state history.

Franklin's next court appearance is April 13, 2012.
