Magnitude 4.0 Earthquake Shakes Eastern Oklahoma Early Tuesday

An earthquake centered in southeastern Oklahoma rattled residents of Green Country early Tuesday morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a magnitude 4.0 quake struck at 2:33 a.m. about 16 miles south-southwest of McAlester in Pittsburg County.  It was about three miles deep.

Although miles away from the epicenter, people in the Tulsa area said the quake produced a considerable shock.

News On 6 Facebook user Christie White wrote: "Yeah I wouldn't say small... shook the house!"

Linda Morgan wrote: "Hell scared me at first. Thought the house was caving in. Heard a loud boom and then shaking. I am in Krebs."

The USGS says residents in Muskogee, Norman, Broken Arrow, Atoka and Shawnee also reported feeling tremors.

No damage or injuries were reported in this earthquake.
