Thousands of illegal immigrants are off the street as immigration agents wrap up their largest sweep in U.S. history. More than 3,100 people were arrested; 36 of those were picked up right here in Oklahoma.

This was a 6-day national operation. It led to the arrest of 11 people in Tulsa and 14 in Oklahoma City. The majority of these people had prior criminal convictions.

The Dallas-based agents focused on counties in north Texas and the entire state of Oklahoma.

The government has released information about one of the illegal aliens they busted in Tulsa. Last Sunday, they picked up a 33-year-old Mexican national with gun and drug convictions.

Of the 3,000 people rounded up in this bust, the vast majority are repeat criminals. More than 500 were kicked out of the U.S. once already.

"The results of this targeted enforcement operation underscore ICE's ongoing commitment and focus on the arrest and removal of convicted criminal aliens and those that game our nation's immigration system," said ICE Director John Morton.

Exactly 150 of those arrested were sex offenders and at least three were convicted murderers. The illegal immigrants who have serious criminal records have been presented to U.S. attorneys for prosecution.
