Tulsa Vet Group Heals, Seeks Homes For Traumatized Pets

Most veterinary clinics take in injured or abused animals and nurse them back to health, but not many will then work to find homes for those same animals.

There's a group in Tulsa that not only fixes 'em up but also finds homes – for a very special category of homeless animals. 

Moe is ready for a home.

For the past few months, Moe has been recovering and rehabbing at the Horizon Animal Hospital. He was severely burned in a meth fire.

Moe lost a lot of hair on his right side. Some of it has grown back, but the rest of the scarring is permanent.

Then there's Trouble - so named, I think, because they had trouble figuring out what happened to him.

"He came to us not being able to use his back legs," said caregiver Joleen Hansen.

Otherwise, Trouble is healthy. 

"He would normally have been euthanized because he can't use his back feet, but with some love and care, and the right home he can have a great life - and he is a sweet cat," Hansen said.

One of their clients paid for a set of wheels.

So you see that's what's happening here, Joleen Hansen, co-worker Sandi Casey and Dr. Cari McDonald are saving animals from the scrap heap because they believe they're worth saving.

Keller is deaf and blind. He can distinguish light and dark; mostly sees with his nose. 

They have about 14 dogs ready to go home with someone. All of them have some sort of disability, or perhaps were abused or just abandoned. 

"Because they've been abused, they have trust issues, but he's warming up," said Joleen Hansen of the Horizon Animal Hospital.

Their goal is to find all these animals decent loving homes. "If they can't, they'll keep them because:

"That's what you do when you love animals," Hansen said.
