Six Named To Oklahoma Sports Hall Of Fame

Six have been elected into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame, highlighted by Oklahoma legend Dewey Selmon and former Oklahoma State head coach Pat Jones, it was announced by Oklahoma City mayor Mick Cornett Tuesday.

Selmon played for the Oklahoma Sooners during their 1974 and 1975 National Championship seasons, earning All-American honors in both. Dewey played alongside his brothers Lee Roy and Lucious while at Oklahoma. After college, Dewey Selmon played six years in the NFL, five with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jones spent 11 years as the head coach of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, winning a school-record 62 games, and was named the Big Eight coach of the year on two occasions. Jones was also responsible for coaching OSU legends Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas, Hart Lee Dykes and current head coach Mike Gundy.

Joining the two in the Hall of Fame will be Lynne Draper, who founded the Jim Thorpe Association, spending 15 years as the President and Executive Director of the association, Ferguson Jenkins, former MLB star and 1971 Cy Young Award winner, Perry Maxwell, known as the father of Oklahoma gold and Jesse "Cab" Renick, Oklahoma State basketball's first two-time All-American.

The induction ceremonies will be held at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum August 6.
