McCLAIN COUNTY, Oklahoma -

Dozens of puppies crammed into a storage building without food or water. That's the discovery Oklahoma authorities and animal rescuers made on Friday.

The McClain County Sheriff's Office got a tip Thursday night from neighbors hearing dogs barking on a vacant property outside Dibble.

On Friday, deputies got a search warrant, and with the help of the Oklahoma State Veterinary Board and Central Oklahoma Humane Society, they started freeing about three dozen puppies.

"When the deputies got here, this facility was totally barricaded in," said Sheriff Don Hewett. "They removed the windows and put this chicken wire up. There was no food. The odor, the stench of ammonia was very bad."

Detectives believe they know who's responsible for the animal abuse. The Sheriff's Department says they plan to file charges.

Meanwhile, the humane society plans to bring the dogs back to health and find them good homes.
