A family returned to their southeast Oklahoma City home early Monday morning and discovered flames consuming the house.

Michael Norton told News 9 he and his family left the house near S.E. 15th Street and Lincoln around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. When they returned around 1:30 a.m. Monday, they found the home on fire.

Norton said he tried to put out the fire with buckets of water, but the fire was too big. The family called 911.

Firefighters arrived within minutes, but the home was engulfed in flames. By the time crews extinguished the blaze, the inside of the house was destroyed.

Norton and his family were renting the home, but they did not have renters' insurance. The family said they lost everything. Fortunately, the family's cat escaped the burning home and survived.

Fire investigators are looking into what caused the fire. No one was hurt.
