OKC Grocery Stores Packed On Forecast Of Snow

Forecasts of winter weather bring shoppers out in droves. Forecasts of winter weather bring shoppers out in droves.

Many said they weren't worried, but the closer we get to the potential of some snow and ice the stores are packed.

It seems there's something about the word snow draws Oklahomans to the store no matter what.

"The parking lot is kind of busy so I thought, everybody's here because of the weather," mom  Michelle Webb said.

"It's a zoo in here," Canada native, Judy said. "I live in British Columbia.  Unless it's going to snow two feet and traffic won't move for two weeks. people don't do this, kind of a mad house."

Just the mention of snow and the Crest store in Edmond is overwhelmed with customers.

"Every check stand is full and people are buying groceries for the next month," Judy said.

Yes, it is busy on Saturdays, but the store is especially packed after the News 9 weather team says there's some snow and ice heading our way.

"Remind me don't come in here on a Saturday right before a snow storm," mom Elaine Shea said.

Whether Oklahomans wanted to admit it or not, once they got inside the store weather was definitely on their minds.

"Snow and cold weather is chili weather," Iowa native Wayne Jennings said. "I lived in Iowa for 40 years, and this is a warm day in Iowa."

Well, it's the way Oklahomans do it and as long as everything stays stocked, everyone seems to be in a good mood shopping just before we do or don't get snow.

If you do want to get to the store to stock up, that winter weather is expected to hit Sunday night into Monday.

Or, you can just wait until Wednesday, meteorologist Nick Bender says, when temperatures will warm back up into the balmy 50's.
