A fire at an abandoned warehouse near downtown Oklahoma City left one man dead early Friday morning.

The fire started just after 2 a.m. at 18 S.W. 6th Street. That's near Interstate 40 and Shields.

Firefighters said three transients may have been living inside the warehouse. Two of them managed to escape after the fire started, but a third person was trapped. Fire crews arrived minutes after the blaze began, but by then flames were shooting from the building and they could not reach the man.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in about an hour. The two survivors told firefighters a candle fell and that's what sparked the fire. Investigators have not confirmed that yet. They are sifting through the debris to determine what caused the blaze.

The name of the victim has not been released. The State Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy on the body. Fire investigators will spend several hours at the scene looking through the debris.
