The Cowboy Baseball and Softball squads are gearing up for the 2012 seasons, and Wednesday the coaches and players took time off the field to talk about the challenges they face this year.

The OSU softball and baseball teams ended their 2011 seasons strong with the women holding onto a No. 8 ranking and the men coming off an NCAA Regional appearance.

The Cowgirl softball team will open its 2012 season Friday, February 10 against North Texas at the Hilton Houston Plaza Classic.

"This will probably be one of our most challenging seasons thus far," said OSU head softball coach Rich Wieligman who added that it will in turn make a successful season all the more rewarding.

The Cowgirls enter the season ranked No. 11 in the preseason after finishing 42-20 a year ago.

For the Cowboys, they look to improve on a 35-25 season last year, but they have a plethora of new faces this year. OSU has 25 new faces on its 35 man roster this season.

"I think we want to finish better than we did last year, we want to play well at all times, but I think our goal needs to be to finish better and finish the season like I know we can," said OSU veteran third baseman Mark Ginther.

Head coach Frank Anderson and the Cowboys begin the season Feb. 17 on the road at Cal Poly.

The baseball team will host an Alumni Game Saturday, Feb. 11 at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. and is open to all former OSU players, who will take on this year's Cowboys in an exhibition game.
