Your 2 Cents: Viewers Respond To Unemployment Benefit Requirements

Posted: Updated:

Some in Congress are pushing for drug testing and proof that you have a high school diploma or are working toward one, before you can collect unemployment benefits.

I say they both make you more employable so it's worth considering.

Here's what you had to say Bubba first: "All Kelly wants to do is take away freedom and personal choice. What's wrong with that, comrade?"

Darla says: "I've been a working taxpayer for 42 years....If I lost my job, why punish me?"

But Jennifer writes: "The only people that believe drug testing and education are punishment are those who have no intention of being drug free and educated."

Arlene: "I've known many people who do not have a diploma or GED, but have valuable skills by having learned these skills hands on."

And Racheal says: "I do agree with the drug testing, I feel that asking to provide a high school diploma is asking for too much."

Ann counters: " right to keeping enough money in my wallet for my own family most definitely trumps their right to privacy."

KSooner: "My husband has done everything right. He attended a major Oklahoma University, got his degree, worked all of his life. You want to drug test people like him?"

Finally, Laura writes: "Drug testing, maybe so. Education proof? How many dropouts are millionaires?"
