A Yale man is in critical condition after the off-road vehicle he was driving was struck by a car. The collision took place at 8: 17 p.m. on State Highway 18 and McElroy Road in Payne County.

Derrick Russell Mueggenborg was driving a Kawasaki Mule UTV eastbound on McElroy Road and failed to yield from a stop sign as he crossed Highway 18, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

He was hit by a 2009 Ford Escape SUV driven by a 33-year-old Wichita, Kansas woman.

Mueggenborg, 26, was taken by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition with head and internal injuries.

The driver of the car and her 1-year-old passenger were not injured.

Troopers say the cause of the collision was failure to yield from the stop sign. Mueggenborg's condition at the time of the wreck is still under investigation.
