OKC Police Say Man Killed Over $250 Debt

An affidavit for a search warrant revealed a murder suspect who claimed the victim owed him money celebrated when he watched news of the man's death on television.

Darryl Davis, 23, was found shot to death near S.W. 8th Street and Brookline on January 23. A witness reported seeing a white car following Davis' car. About 15 minutes later, that same witness found his body. The witness did not hear any gunshots.

Police were not able to identify Davis immediately, but he was wearing a work T-shirt from Mathis Brothers furniture store. Detectives went to the store the morning of January 24 and learned Davis was an employee. He'd also been at work the night he died and left just after 8 p.m.

Employees told detectives that Christian Castro and Nelson Williams, two Mathis Brothers workers who were off duty that night, came to the business just before Davis left. The men were seen talking to the victim, and video footage of the parking lot showed Castro and Williams in a white Lincoln following Davis.

When Williams showed up to work the afternoon of January 24, detectives were there waiting to talk to him. According to court documents, Williams told police he knew about Davis' homicide, and said Castro shot him because Davis owed him about $250.

Williams said after Castro shot Davis in the back of the head, he ran back to their car, threw the gun at Williams and they drove to Williams' home.

The two men watched the 10 p.m. news that night and saw the story of Davis' homicide. Williams said when Castro saw the report, he beat his chest and said, "I got him. I am a (sic) OG!"

Police later spoke with Castro, and said he repeated Williams story, except he claimed he did not shoot Davis.

Police arrested both men and booked them into the Oklahoma County Jail on one count each of first-degree murder.
