The Oklahoma City Fire Department is busy preparing recruits for real life situations. On Monday, the recruits participated in live fire drills.

It's one of their final exercises before graduation. The recruits have to complete several different scenarios, including a structure fire with explosions, and search and rescue missions.

"It's really hot. Low visibility. But the instructors know what they're doing. They keep it safe. And it's good practice," recruit Matthew Gibson said.

Instructors told News 9 that inside the explosion simulator, temperatures get up to 2000 degrees.

Graduation for the recruits is set for February 10.
