Oklahoma City police investigate the eighth homicide in 2012. A man was shot and killed at southwest 8th Street and Brookline just before 9 p.m. on Monday, but police say this homicide does not establish a trend for the future.

The first and second homicides were technically from 2011. Police recovered Jaymie Adams' pregnant body at the first of January, but she went missing in December, 2011.

Police say Adams and her unborn baby count as the first two homicides in 2012.
In the last 24 days, police have opened six homicide investigations. Still, police explain it is impossible to detect a pattern for the rest of the year.
In 2011, police worked 60 homicides, but Master Sergeant Gary knight says last year, in the month of January, zero homicides occurred and adds unfortunately the homicides come in spurts throughout the year.
"To say there is a trend is ridiculous and irresponsible," Msgt. Knight said.
Anyone with information in the homicides is asked to call the hotline at (405)-297-1200.
