A Broken Arrow teenager is dead after crashing his car into a utility pole early Sunday morning. Travis Michael Perez, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene of a single car crash at Kenosha and Ash Avenue.

Police say Perez was westbound on Kenosha (71st Street) at about 12:40 a.m. when he lost control of his 2005 Red Scion TC near the intersection at Ash Avenue. The car left the roadway, going through a drainage culvert and striking a utility pole on the north side of Kenosha.

Perez was driving at a high rate of speed, and alcohol use appears to be a factor, according to Sergeant Ed Ferguson, Broken Arrow Police. The teen was not wearing a seat belt.

Kenosha was closed for several hours Sunday morning between Elm Place and Main Street as crews worked to restore power lines damaged in the wreck.

A passenger in the Scion, 19-year-old Darren Wilton of Broken Arrow, was taken to a Tulsa hospital in stable condition. Ferguson told The News On 6 that Wilton's injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
