Firefighters have contained a grass fire that broke out in a thickly wooded area in Del City on Tuesday.

According to the Del City Fire Department, the grass fire started in the area of N.E. 4th and Sunnylane Road just after noon. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze before it spread to nearby industrial areas where petroleum, ethanol and asphalt facilities are located. A local company assisted with a front end loader to assist firefighters in creating a firebreak. Crews are still on scene to put out any hotspots that remain.

Northerly winds blowing at about 15 mph helped fan the flames. The fire burned approximately five acres of land containing a lot of debris, trash and tires. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. The cause has not been determined.
