WASHINGTON, D.C -

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is closing of several of its offices in Oklahoma under a cost-cutting plan announced this week by federal officials.

Nationwide, the USDA plans to shut down close 259 offices, facilities and labs in 46 states this year.

In Oklahoma, the list of closures includes the Farm Service Agency in Pawnee and Mayes counties, the Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services office in Oklahoma City, the Agricultural Research Service office in Atoka County and Rural Development offices in Pushmataha and Pittsburg counties.

USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack says when fully implemented, these actions along with other recommended changes will provide efficiencies valued at about $150 million annually.
