OKLAHOMA CITY -

Thousands of dollars worth of property was stolen from the Boy Scouts right off of church property in northwest Oklahoma City.

The troop's leader says it happened early Wednesday morning. Boy Scouts of America tells News 9 that someone broke through a thick chain and lock on a gate before taking a trailer full of camping equipment.

"It just makes you sick," scout master Mike Willson said. "You just feel sick that someone would take those type [of] things from these kids."

An estimated $10,000 to $15,000 worth of new tents, stoves, lanterns, tarps and a trailer are now gone.

"It's unfortunate, but we will keep going," Willson said.

The going will be tough for Troop 146. Willson says the scouts will be struggling to replace the equipment. This is the second time in eight years the troop's trailer has been stolen from the grounds of a church, located at NW 16th Street and Drexel Boulevard in Oklahoma City.

The troop says on Monday the church's trailer was stolen, so extra precautions were taken to lock up the gate where the scout's trailer was located to prevent the scout's trailer from disappearing as well. However, that did not stop the brazen thieves from striking again.

"You don't steal from the church or from scouts, and unfortunately that's what someone chose to do," Willson said.

For now, the scouts will go without. Upcoming camping trips are uncertain.

"A lot of the adults had taken a lot of time to create everything in that trailer for the kids," Willson said.

The trailer was last seen at 5th and Indiana near downtown Oklahoma City. If you have any information, you are urged to call Oklahoma City Police.

The troop is based out of Grace United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.
