Editor's note:  An earlier version of this story reported that five fire departments were called in to fight the fire.  We've since learned that two additional departments, Barnsdall City and Pershing, were also involved so we've added that information to the story.

The smoke from a major grass and brush fire southwest of Bartlesville could be seen in Tulsa on Monday.

The fire broke out Monday morning on the Hughes Ranch just west of state Highway 123 between Bartlesville and Barnsdall in Osage County.

Firefighters from the ranch along with seven area volunteer fire departments were finally able to bring the fire under control by mid-afternoon.

Firefighters from Osage Hills, Washington County, Barnsdall Rural, Barnsdall City, Ochelata, Pershing and Oglesby fire departments were called out to help.

There are also smaller grass fires burning north of Bartlesville and near Copan in Washington County.
