A Valley Brook police officer credits two Oklahoma City officers with saving this life after a suspect managed to grab his gun.

Officer Darrin Johnson says he was involved in a life-and-death struggle in the parking lot outside the Valley Brook police station on December 8. He says Damien Muncie had a gun to his head when the Oklahoma City officers shot and killed Muncie.

According to surveillance video, Muncie first walked up to the Valley Brook police station at 10:30 p.m.

The Valley Brook police chief says Muncie wrote bizarre messages on the outside of the station in his own blood. He then broke in and started trashing the inside.

Officer Darren Johnson was sent to investigate.

"When I got over here I observed more office equipment and paperwork and small office supplies coming out the window," Johnson said.

Muncie then jumped out of the window, head first. He attacked Officer Johnson and was seemingly immune to any efforts to subdue him.

"The O.C. was ineffective. My baton was ineffective. The taser was ineffective," said Johnson. "Fighting him hand to hand, he didn't seem to feel any pain."

Eventually, Muncie was able to grab Johnson's gun.

"When he came up off the ground he was able to take my weapon and put the gun to my head, the right side of my head."

Muncie started firing the gun before two Oklahoma City police officers shot and killed him.

"I'm very thankful for what they did that day. I truly believe I may very well not be here if they wouldn't have showed up to help me that day."

Those two Oklahoma City police officers, Chris Grimes and Roy Mitchell, are still on leave and recovering from their injuries. They were both shot in the incident.

Officer Johnson did suffer some hearing loss because of gunshots near his ear. Another bullet hit his cell phone which was in the pocket of his pants.
