An Oklahoma man who was only the second patient in the country to leave a hospital with a portable device that powered his artificial heart has died.

Pastor Troy Golden was born with a genetic condition that destroyed his heart. In September 2010, surgeons removed the organ and replaced it with a Total Artificial heart.

Golden was able to leave Integris Baptist Medical Center in October 2010, about a month after the surgery. He took with him a 13-pound, portable power source for his artificial heart.

Golden was still waiting for a heart transplant when he died Wednesday, December 28.
