I just want to take this time as we celebrate Christmas and the end of 2011 to say thank you to all our viewers, web surfers and app users for trusting News 9 as your weather choice! We are grateful and love what we do. There is extreme passion to give you the best weather information. The weather has been extremely passionate this year, too!

What a crazy year we have had; not just weather-wise but also what happens below ground! A lot of history has been made this year. To start the year we had the blizzard that shut down Oklahoma City and Tulsa with heavy snow and extreme winds. This storm brought historic snowfall and temperatures for the state. In February, Oklahoma set a record for snowfall of 27 inches south of Grand Lake in Spavinaw and just northwest of that same area, an all-time record low in Nowata or more appropriately, 'Icewata', of minus 31 degrees!

The spring was not kind either. We had a historic hail storm on May 23rd and a killer tornado outbreak on May 24th. The hail storm was in Gotebo with a hailstone measuring 6 inches in diameter! That is an all-time record for the state! The tornado outbreak including one EF-5 and two EF-4s all came very close to being catastrophic for the metro. Sadly, there were 10 fatalities with these beastly storms with people's lives changed forever.

The EF-5 tornado passed by the El Reno Mesonet site and recorded the highest wind speed ever of 151 mph.

For any given year, these events would make for a memorable one in this state! But the summer and fall were equally memorable and make up one if not the most wild and historic weather years, ever!

I will finish up the year in my next blog next Tuesday. I hope you have a great holiday season! Merry Christmas, everyone!
