The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office is getting a lot tougher on people caught not stopping at stop signs or red lights during the holiday season.

On Monday, the Sheriff's Office kicked off its third annual "Red Lights for Christmas" program. The program will run through New Year's Day.

"A yellow light does not mean speed up, it means slow down, and a red light does not mean run it, it means stop," Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel said.

In 2010, in Oklahoma County alone, more than 3,200 people were involved in failure-to-yield crashes. Eight of those people died.

According to the Sheriff's Office, 17-year-old Aaron Zentz was killed in a crash when someone ran a red light. His mother, Tracy Zentz, attended the announcement on Monday to help raise awareness of this issue.

"Enjoy the holidays, your family, and friends", said Zentz. "Let's all get to our destination safely, take that one second to stop on red."
