Oklahoma City Police have identified a 28-year-old man who was shot by an officer during a struggle.

On Tuesday, November 29, around 3 p.m., police responded to a domestic call at Lake Park Condominiums on N.W. 10th Street and Davis. Police say Sgt. Keith Duroy, a 19-year veteran of the police force, attempted to arrest Golden Deshawn Smith on an outstanding warrant.

Investigators say Smith resisted arrest and began fighting with Sgt. Duroy. Police say Sgt. Duroy was forced to shoot Smith because he assaulted the officer and refused to surrender. Even after he was shot, Smith continued to struggle and a second officer had to help subdue him.

Smith was shot once in the torso. He is in critical condition following surgery. He faces charges of assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest.

Sgt. Duroy sustained an injury to his arm during the struggle. He was treated at a hospital and released. He's been placed on routine administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
