OKLAHOMA CITY -- Across the nation, malls and retail parking lots were crowded with more shoppers than ever.

Some stores opened up earlier this year—on Thanksgiving itself—hoping to get more shoppers in.

One metro retailer, however, saw smaller crowds at first. He's hoping that stumble doesn't affect overall sales.

Some shoppers revel in the tents, the lines, the crowds of Black Friday, but a few longtime Black Friday shoppers say that this year's earlier shopping on Thanksgiving was a game-changer for them.

"We tried the midnight thing, the madness, but it was a little more difficult on the consumer," Brady Maxwell said.

This year, Maxwell and his wife avoided the camping and waiting in line. They got up and waited at home until things cleared a little before venturing out.

Many Black Friday vets say they made the most of their time in line by shopping online with their smart phones.

Retailers say from the looks of today's crowds, they aren't worried about sales this season.
